A former Israeli military officer has stated that Israel, not Hamas, is the one truly being destroyed in the ongoing conflict.
In an article published by the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, retired Major General Yitzhak Brik highlighted several aspects of the current situation in the Middle East and the Gaza war.
Brik warned that Israel is on a path to destruction, stating that the current strategy in Gaza is leading Israel towards potential ruin rather than victory. He noted that the Gaza war is severely damaging both the Israeli military and the country’s broader stability.
He also dismissed the belief held by some Israeli leaders that a military withdrawal from Gaza after a hostage agreement with Hamas would signify defeat.
Brik criticized this thinking as a fundamental misunderstanding of the situation, arguing that it is being used to justify an ineffective and ongoing war.
He pointed out that repeated attacks on Gaza have not achieved their objectives; instead, the military is weakening, and the situation is worsening due to continuous operations.
He further warned that if Israel continues with repeated raids and attacks on the same targets in Gaza, it will not only fail to defeat Hamas but also risk self-destruction.
The retired general also shed light on the war’s impact on the Israeli military, economy, and society at large. He revealed that many Israeli soldiers are now reluctant to return to Gaza, indicating the military’s current mindset. He emphasized that the two main goals of the war—eliminating Hamas and freeing all hostages through military operations—have not been achieved.
Brik argued that the military’s failure to fully control Gaza and dismantle Hamas’ network of tunnels is proof that the current military strategy is ineffective.
