Pakistani TikTok influencer Sajal Malik has spoken out publicly against the scandal over a viral video making the rounds online purportedly of her, squarely denying any role and calling the experience “mentally haunting” and an instance of being “wrongly accused.”
The clip, which started circulating on social media sites on April 22, 2025, went viral in a matter of hours, triggering mass controversy over whether it was authentic and evoking real questions about privacy and cybercrime.
While some people on social media suspected the video was fake, others condemned Malik, which created a divided and, at times, abusive online space.
In her official release, Malik called the video a “complete fake” and highlighted the profound emotional trauma caused to her by it. She then formally complained to Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), requesting action against the source of the leak and those behind it.
Malik emphasized that this is more than just trolling on the internet, bordering on character assassination and serious violation of privacy.
Recognized for her lively street interviews and social commentary, Malik has gained over 176,000 followers on TikTok. The incident not only impacted her own well-being but also drew attention to the vulnerabilities of public figures in today’s digital world.
The case is one of a disturbing pattern in Pakistani influencers who have also suffered such violations of privacy, such as Minahil Malik, Zernab Shastri, and Imsha Rehman.
The cases highlight the need for extensive measures to safeguard people against online exploitation and the long-term implications of online viral misinformation.
Meanwhile, as the FIA inquiry continues, Malik’s supporters have come out in support of her, calling for justice and more respect for privacy and dignity online.
