Karachi police obtained a two-day physical remand order for Salman Farooqi and his co-accused in the DHA torture case, on Tuesday.

According to reports, the Gizri police presented the two accused in front of Judicial Magistrate South Muzammil Ali Soomro in the City Court. The police asked a physical remand and the judge granted it for two days while also requesting a progress report at the next hearing.

Police have arrested Salman Farooqi, the main suspect involved in a brutal assault on a citizen in Karachi’s upscale Defence area.

The incident occurred in Khayaban-e-Ittehad, where a man, accompanied by his driver and security guard, violently attacked a motorcyclist.

According to South Zone DIG, Salman Farooqi was taken into custody along with his driver and guard shortly after the video of the assault went viral. The suspect’s vehicle has also been seized as part of the investigation.

A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered at Gizri Police Station based on the complaint of an eyewitness, Muhammad Aslam. The FIR directly names Salman Farooqi as the perpetrator and states that the accused physically assaulted a motorcyclist without provocation.

DIG South confirmed that preliminary investigations show the suspect is not affiliated with any government institution. He added that police raided Farooqi’s office and residence late at night to ensure his arrest. Authorities are also attempting to contact the victim’s family to gather further details.

“This is a serious case of taking the law into one’s own hands,” the DIG emphasized. “The FIR includes all individuals involved, and no one will be spared—regardless of their influence.”

SSP South further added that the accused and his security personnel acted unlawfully by resorting to violence. “Such behavior is unacceptable, and the suspects will face the full force of the law,” he said.

Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hasan Lanjar also took immediate notice of the incident and demanded a full report from the SSP South. He stated, “No individual, no matter how powerful, will be allowed to bypass the law. Strict legal action will be taken against all those responsible.”

The Home Minister reiterated that the law is equal for all citizens and assured that a transparent investigation would be conducted to deliver justice to the victim.
