Veteran actress, director, and producer Samina Peerzada has long been celebrated for her elegance, insight, and steadfast dedication to promoting the arts and culture in Pakistan.
Renowned for her deep reflections on societal issues, Samina recently shared her perspectives on women’s rights, marriage, and mutual respect in an interview with Aamna Haider Isani. Her views are gaining widespread appreciation from both her fans and industry peers.
Her comments come at a time when statements by fellow actresses Saima Qureshi and Sarah Khan have stirred controversy.
Saima had controversially stated that money earned by women is “unblessed,” while Sarah recently revealed that she doesn’t consider herself a feminist and prefers her husband to handle financial responsibilities like paying bills.
In response, Samina Peerzada thoughtfully addressed these issues, highlighting the significance of men’s gestures such as paying bills or opening doors, not as a measure of a woman’s worth, but as a reflection of the man’s upbringing.
“When a man opens a door for me, I think of how his mother raised him to respect women,” she remarked. “It speaks to his character, not to mine.”
On the topic of women’s financial contributions, Samina firmly rejected the idea that a woman’s earnings could be considered less valuable.
She shared her personal experience, explaining how she supported her daughter’s education while her husband, Usman Peerzada, worked on providing them a home. “We valued each other’s efforts and built our life together,” she explained.
Samina also emphasized the importance of mutual support in marriage. She recalled never having an issue with Usman helping his family, and in turn, he supported her in caring for her own.
“A marriage should be based on mutual love and support for one another and our families,” she concluded.
