Seasoned Pakistani actress Samina Peerzada has revealed the reason behind her seven-year break from the screen.

Recently Samina is making her return to entertainment industry with the upcoming horror film Deemak, produced under the Geo Films banner. Her last appearance on screen was in the drama serial Balaa, which aired in 2018.

In a recent interview, Samina shared that she took a break after Balaa because the role had a deep emotional impact on her.

Currently busy promoting Deemak, the actress opened up about her time away from acting. She explained that the final four to five episodes of Balaa involved her character struggling with memory loss — a portrayal she based on her own mother’s condition.

Samina recalled how, before her mother’s passing, her memory had gradually started to fade in a similar way. “I would see my mother in the morning before going to set, and after returning home, I’d see her again. Then I would act out her condition while filming,” she said.

She added that after her mother passed away, the character in Balaa emotionally overwhelmed her. “After the drama ended and the third day of my mother’s funeral was observed, I contacted my daughters and went to be with them.”

She also shared that during that time, COVID-19 struck, causing the cancellation of all her ongoing projects.

Samina revealed that during the COVID-19 pandemic, she engaged in various healthy routines and immersed herself in calming and fulfilling activities. “That’s when I stopped working and slowly started to enjoy the break from acting,” she said.
