17-year-old social media personality Sana Yousaf was fatally shot inside her residence on June 2, prompting swift and intensive action from law enforcement authorities.
Islamabad’s Chief of Police, Ali Nasir Rizvi, spoke at a press briefing Tuesday, describing the murder as a heartbreaking incident that deeply affected the police force.
“When a young woman falls victim to such violence, it becomes a matter of immense concern,” he said. “We approached this case with full dedication.”
According to Rizvi, Sana was gunned down in her home at approximately 5 PM.
Investigators believe the attacker was fixated on building a personal relationship with the victim—an offer she repeatedly declined.
Immediately following the killing, seven specialized police teams were mobilized.
Investigators pulled footage from more than 100 CCTV cameras, reviewed hundreds of phone records, and conducted extensive social media analysis to track the suspect’s movements.
The manhunt spanned multiple cities, leading to 11 operations—three within Islamabad and others in Faisalabad and Jaranwala.
This coordinated effort led authorities to the arrest of Umar Hayat in Faisalabad earlier today.
Sources familiar with the case disclosed that Hayat, whose father previously served as a mid-level government employee, admitted to carrying out the crime during questioning.
A firearm believed to be used in the shooting, along with the victim’s smartphone, has been seized.
Authorities say the suspect plotted the act in advance. On the day of the incident, he arrived near the victim’s home on a motorbike, shot her multiple times, and fled on foot.
Surveillance footage captured him fleeing the area, which helped investigators close in on his location.
Law enforcement officials believe the motive was driven by rejection and obsession, describing the crime as premeditated and deeply disturbing.
