Saudi Arabia has fiercely criticized Israel’s airstrikes on Tehran, which killed several high-ranking Iranian military officers and nuclear scientists, calling them a “blatant violation” of international law and a threat to regional security.
Saudi Arabia Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement expressing “strong condemnation and denunciation of the blatant Israeli aggressions against the brotherly Islamic Republic of Iran, which undermine its sovereignty and security and constitute a clear violation of international laws and norms.”
The Kingdom also urged the United Nations Security Council and the international community to take prompt action to stop the aggression, saying that it could further destabilize an already fragile region.
Riyadh’s criticism comes just hours after Israeli fighter planes carried out a series of devastating attacks on Tehran. The strikes killed Iran’s senior military leader, Major General Mohammad Bagheri, IRGC Chief Hossein Salami, and two key nuclear experts, Dr. Mohammad Mahdi Tehranchi and Dr. Fereydoon Abbasi.
Airstrikes specifically targeted:
The Natanz Nuclear Facility is Iran’s principal uranium enrichment center.
Fordow Fuel Enrichment Plant is a well protected underground enrichment facility near Qom.
Isfahan Uranium Conversion Facility: Processes uranium for enrichment.
The Arak Heavy Water Reactor is critical for manufacturing plutonium for potential weapons development.
Isfahan, which houses the Uranium Conversion Facility and several other nuclear facilities, was heavily targeted. Iran’s major uranium enrichment complex, the Natanz Nuclear Facility in Isfahan province, was also heavily damaged. Arak, which houses Iran’s Heavy Water Reactor, was also targeted in the sweeping assault.
In addition to nuclear targets, Israel hit numerous missile production and launch facilities throughout Iran. These operations attempted to dramatically reduce Iran’s long-range missile capabilities, which Israel considers an existential danger.
