Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud stated that achieving a permanent ceasefire in Gaza is the kingdom’s current priority when asked about normalizing ties with Israel.
He was in Moscow at the time.
Since the Palestinian Islamist organization Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, Israel has been attacking the region, killing over 57,000 Palestinians, according to the local health ministry in Gaza.
Israel claims that more than 250 people were taken hostage into Gaza and that 1,200 people were killed in the attack.
Gaza’s final proposal
US President Donald Trump stated on Friday that it would likely be known within a day whether Hamas, the militant Palestinian organization, has accepted what he has referred to as a “final proposal” for an Israel-Hamas ceasefire in Gaza.
The Abraham Accords, a deal on normalizing relations between Israel and some Gulf nations that his administration negotiated during his first term, were also discussed by the president with Saudi Arabia.
Trump announced on Tuesday that Israel had agreed to the terms of a 60-day ceasefire with Hamas, during which time the parties will try to bring the conflict to an end.
When asked if Hamas had accepted the most recent ceasefire agreement framework on Friday, he responded, “We’ll see what happens, we are going to know over the next 24 hours.”
According to a source close to Hamas, the Islamist organization requested assurances on Thursday that Israel’s war in Gaza would end as a result of the new ceasefire proposal supported by the US.
