The government has declared a public holiday across Pakistan on the eve of Youm-e-Takbeer, Wednesday, May 28. According to official notifications, the State Bank of Pakistan and all Lahore courts, including the high court, will remain closed.

A circular issued by the State Bank of Pakistan on Friday confirmed that the bank and its sub-offices throughout the nation would observe a holiday on May 28.

Likewise, the authorities have closed all Lahore district courts, including the high court, for May 28. They have issued an official notification with the approval of Lahore High Court Chief Justice Alia Neelam, confirming the suspension of court proceedings for the day.

The holiday will be for the principal seat, all the regional benches, and sessions and civil courts. The authorities have sent duplicate notifications to the registrar of the Supreme Court and sessions judges in all districts of Punjab.

Earlier, the government also declared the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) closed on May 28 for Youm-e-Takbeer, a public holiday celebrating the nation’s historic nuclear tests of 1998.

In an official notification, the PSX notified all relevant stakeholders that the closure was according to the public holiday announced by the Government of Pakistan.

The notification stated that the Pakistan Stock Exchange Limited will remain closed on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, as the Government of Pakistan has announced a public holiday on the occasion of Youm-e-Takbeer.

The Sindh government also announced May 28 as an official public holiday to mark Youm-e-Takbeer. On Monday, the chief secretary notified that all government offices, provincial departments, autonomous bodies, and local municipal councils in Sindh would close on the day.
