Police in Thailand said on Tuesday that a school bus carrying over forty pupils and instructors on a field trip catches fire on the outside of Bangkok, the country’s capital, killing at least 23 people.
Trairong Phiwpan, the commissioner of forensic science, informed reporters that 23 bodies had been identified and that an inquiry into the causes was under progress.
Sixteen kids and three instructors were brought to a hospital for medication, Transport Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit added.
Thick, gray smoke could be seen coming out of the bus, some of which was still on fire, in photos that were shared on social media and covered by regional news agencies.
A few while later, the fire went out. A group of firefighters was stationed at the entrance, and a photographer for Reuters observed police, fire, and rescue vehicles positioned all around the burnt-out car.
At a news conference, acting police commander Kittirat Phanphet stated, “Teachers informed us that the fire erupted very quickly.”
“From talking to witnesses, it appears that that the blast was caused by a spark from the tire that ignited the gas tank that was driving the automobile,” he added, adding that multiple students fled by the window.
“We are looking into everything, including the bus company, to determine if there was any negligence involved.”
