Sindh reported its first mpox case following a positive test in Karachi as per provincial health department, on Saturday.
Two further individuals have been diagnosed positive in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on March 7, along with mpoxic case reports.
Officials told that both instances were admitted to the dermatology OPD at Khyber Teaching Hospital after physicians suspected them of experiencing mpox signs.
Furthermore, last month a woman was found having mpox in Bara tehsil of Khyber district, prompting the authorities to increase screening and monitoring.
In a release today, Meeran Yousuf, media coordinator for the Sindh health department, stated the case was verified in a 29 year old Malir resident without any previous travel history.
“His first symptoms started March 15, 2025,” she stated.
At a public hospital, the patient is now in quarantine and the department of health is running contact tracing.
Dawn.com was told by Yousuf that the case was verified at the Ojha campus of Dow University’s Provincial Public Health Lab.
She also said the patient was being treated at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
A major health menace that is wiping out some of the most vulnerable individuals on the planet, mpox may be spreading in different manners and throughout new parts of Africa.
On August 14, 2024, the World Health Organization labeled mpox, previously known as monkeypox, a global health disaster.
