Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan’s sports comedy-drama Sitaare Zameen Par has performed well at the box office, earning ₹94.95 crore within its first eight days of release.
Notably, Aamir Khan opted for a non-traditional release strategy by launching the film exclusively in theatres, with no plans for an OTT release. This move contributed significantly to its strong performance at the box office, bringing the film close to the ₹100 crore milestone.
The film also marks the debut of ten new actors, including Aarosh Dutta, Gopi Krishna Verma, Samvet Desai, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra, and Simran Mangeshkar.
According to the latest report by trade tracker Sacnilk, Sitaare Zameen Par collected ₹94.95 crore in its first week. It is expected to cross the ₹100 crore mark in India by the end of its second weekend.
The film, helmed by director R.S. Prasanna and categorized as a sports-comedy with emotional depth, has struck a chord with audiences across India. Industry insiders note that Aamir’s bold choice to withhold the film from streaming platforms upon release has contributed to its commercial momentum.
The film debuted with Rs 10.7 crore on day one and maintained a strong trajectory through the weekend, bringing in Rs 20.2 crore on Saturday and peaking at Rs 27.25 crore on Sunday. Though Monday witnessed a decline to Rs 8.5 crore—its first single-digit figure—the overall weekend total reached a substantial Rs 58.15 crore, solidifying its status as a box office success.
Analysts credit the absence of major competing releases this week as a contributing factor, predicting that Sitaare Zameen Par could comfortably breach the Rs 100 crore benchmark before the week concludes. However, new competition looms with the upcoming release of Maa on Friday, a supernatural thriller by Vishal Furia featuring Kajol, which draws thematic inspiration from her husband Ajay Devgn’s previous hit, Shaitaan.
