Bollywood star Sonam Kapoor recently shared old photographs with Pakistani actor Fawad Khan, which unleashed a storm of nostalgia, sarcasm, and political digs in comments.
Sonam Kapoor posted photos on her official Facebook account from their 2014 box office hit Khoobsurat, which marked Fawad Khan’s Bollywood debut and catapulted him to massive fame in India.
Sonam captioned the photos: “Magic on screen with Fawad Khan,” rekindling memories of their delightful on-screen chemistry. Fawad portrayed the royal role of Prince Vikram Singh Rathore opposite Sonam, and his act earned him the award for Best Debut Male at the Filmfare Awards.
Whereas most fans loved the post, referring to the duo as a “one-time Jodi with endless memories,” others were a little more bitter and/or sarcastic.
One of the users said, “I think Sonam posts these pics whenever she fights with her husband. And she has posted them many times.” Another said, “Ah… so Sonam gets caught up in the Fawad charm never-ending loop? I see what you did there.”
Some were sarcastic and commented on Bollywood itself, with one user saying, “RIP Bollywood.”
Others introduced political undertones, with a remark stating, “Go Pakistan and do romance with him,” as another one chimed, “Your memories are burning your own Indians.”
Despite the divided responses, most fans from Pakistan jumped in with love and affection, saying, “Love from Pakistan, both are looking fantastic.”
The post appears in light of the tensions that have been building between Pakistan and India after heightened escalation last month, in May.
India has since suspended access to the social media pages of scores of Pakistani actors, athletes, and public figures.
These included stars such as Fawad Khan, singer Atif Aslam, and cricketers Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and retired ones such as Shahid Afridi and Wasim Akram.
