Pakistan’s federal government has set aside a proposed Rs24 billion for the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) in the upcoming fiscal year 2025-26.
This landmark funding injects significant momentum into the nation’s space program. Notably, Rs600 million of this sum is directly allocated to Pakistan’s inaugural manned space mission, powerfully highlighting the country’s drive for technological advancement.
Official sources indicated that the bulk of the funding, over Rs18 billion, will support the development of the Multi-Mission Communication Satellite System. The initiative aims to enhance the nation’s communication and surveillance capabilities from orbit, paving the way for increased connectivity and security.
The newly initiated Pakistan Lunar Exploration project will utilize Rs400 million from the total Rs18 billion, placing Pakistan among the emerging forces in the quest to explore the Moon worldwide.
Deep Space Astronomical Project
The government will dedicate Rs 1.8 billion to kick-start a groundbreaking project that expands scientific research into cosmic regions and deepens humanity’s understanding of the universe.
Moreover, authorities plan to spend Rs 1.7 billion on the Pakistan Optical Remote Sensing Satellite, which will elevate Earth observation capabilities and revolutionize resource mapping technology.
The Special Investment Facilitation Council will receive more than Rs 500 million to accelerate foreign investment and drive critical economic reforms.
The government will also allocate over Rs 50 billion to the Cabinet Division and provide matching funds exceeding Rs 50 billion for constituency development projects initiated by parliament members.
These proposed allocations await formal review and will be finalized when the federal government presents the 2025-26 budget later this month.
