Tensions have erupted in the Nagpur of India after protest over the removal of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb’s Tomb.
Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Davenda Fadnavis called for peace after the incidents.
On Monday right wing group Vishwa Hindu Parishad organized a protest demanding the removal of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb’s Tomb.
According to the local media, the unrest escalated into violent clashes, resulting in throwing stones and setting many vehicles on fire.
Few fire brigades were also set ablaze as a result firemen sustained injuries.
While responding, police used cane charges and tear gas to control the situation.
The Deputy commissioner of police Archit Chandak also verified that law enforcement employed year gas and demonstrated the force the disperse the crowd.
The controversy over removing Aurangzeb’s tomb started last month.
Samajwadi Party leader Abu Azmi praised the Mughal emperor as a skilled administrator who was misrepresented in history.
His comments coincided with the release of the film Chhaava, which showed the torture of Sambhaji Maharaj, sparking widespread outrage.
Azmi faced police cases but secured advance bail from a Mumbai court.
