Police in the Pakistani capital are investigating the murder of 17-year-old teenager Sana Yousaf, who was found shot at home.
The brutal murder shocked many and sparked renewed concerns about the safety of social media influencers. The victim’s father, Anwar-ul-Haq, made his first public appearance to demand justice and urged the authorities to take action.
Haq, a well-known figure in the Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz Huqooq Chitral movement, described the incident as a tragic event and denied that it was due to any personal issues.
“What has happened to me is not due to any enmity or personal matter. This whole incident is a tragic accident,” he told in a video message released during the ongoing investigation.
He directly approached authorities and asserted, “I urge government to take the culprit into custody and bring him to justice. It is the responsibility of the institutions to punish the criminal.” He said That people from Chitral are peace-loving and don’t involve themselves in conflicts or violence.
The plea of the father has evoked widespread support, with people expressing solidarity and urging strict legal action against the accused.
The attack happened within Sana’s house by one of her acquaintances, who shot her twice in the chest and then escaped. Sana was taken to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries. Her mother and visiting sister-in-law happened to be present and can recognize the suspect.
Sana Yousaf gained several lac followers and was famous for posting content pertaining to culture, women’s rights, and youth empowerment.
