During a pretty tense meeting at the White House, U.S. President Donald Trump brought up false claims about so-called white genocide in South Africa, confronting South African President Cyril Ramaphosa with those remarks. But Ramaphosa didn’t hold back—he threw in a clever comment, saying he had no plane to gift Trump.
“Sorry, no plane I can give you,” Ramaphosa joked while both leaders sat in the Oval Office for their meeting and lunch.
Trump laughed at first and replied, “I wish you did. I’d take it. If South Africa gave a plane to U.S. Air Force, I’d accept it.”
The comment came shortly after Qatar gave Trump a luxury Boeing 747 jet, which is said to be used as future Air Force One. Pentagon already confirmed they accepted that jet while Trump was still hosting Ramaphosa.
Jet is worth almost $400 million, and now both Republican and Democrat lawmakers are raising concerns. They are questioning legal and ethical side of receiving such an expensive gift.
Later, when a reporter asked Trump about plane issue, he snapped back, calling the journalist “idiot.”
“You really not cut out for reporting,” Trump said. “Not smart enough to be journalist.”
