President Donald Trump denied reports that his administration was considering a $30 billion deal to help Iran develop a civilian nuclear program.
In recent days, the Trump administration has looked into potential economic incentives for Iran in exchange for its government stopping uranium enrichment, according to reports from NBC News on Friday and NN on Thursday. Sources were cited in the reports.
According to officials quoted by CNN, a number of preliminary proposals were put forth. The SleazeBag in the fake news media is claiming that “President Trump wants to give Iran $30 billion to build non-military nuclear facilities.” Late Friday, Trump referred to the reports as a “HOAX” in a post on Truth Social that read, “Never heard of this ridiculous idea.”
Indirect negotiations between the US and Iran have been underway since April with the goal of reaching a new diplomatic agreement on Iran’s nuclear program. Washington claims it wants to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon, while Tehran claims its program is peaceful.
In an effort to end the conflict that started on June 13 when Israel attacked Iran, Trump earlier this week declared a ceasefire between the U.S. ally Israel and its regional adversary Iran. In a region already tense since Israel’s war in Gaza began in October 2023, the Israel-Iran conflict had sparked fears.
Prior to Trump’s announcement of the ceasefire, Iran targeted a U.S. base in Qatar on Monday in retaliation for the US striking its nuclear sites over the past weekend.
