Despite Israel’s unrelenting offensive on Gaza, which has killed at least 14 people in recent attacks across the beleaguered enclave since morning, US President Donald Trump stated that a truce between Israel and Hamas might be struck “within the next week.”
After talks with unidentified parties, Trump told reporters on Friday that he thought a truce was imminent.
“I believe it to be close. Trump remarked, “I just talked to a few of the individuals involved.” “We anticipate having a ceasefire within the next week.”
Steve Witkoff, a spokesman for Trump’s special envoy and participant in past truce attempts, stated that they had “no information to share” on Trump’s ceasefire forecast.
Next week, Israeli Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer is scheduled to meet with Trump officials in Washington to discuss Iran, Gaza, and Netanyahu’s potential visit to the White House.
But earlier this week, when he visited with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in The Hague, Trump had already hinted at progress.
“I think great progress is being made on Gaza,” he stated at the time. I believe we will get some excellent news. He said that Steve Witkoff, his Middle East envoy, had informed him that an accord was “very close” in Gaza.
Simultaneously, a senior Hamas official indicated that there was an active diplomatic track and that conversations had accelerated.
