On Monday, the U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order to lift U.S. sanctions on Syria in an attempt to help Syrian rebuild its own economy after years of civil war.

By lifting the sanctions imposed on Syria to access international financial system, the measure retains sanctions imposed on individuals suspected of being behind the activities of the Assad regime or acting on behalf of the regime, human rights violations as well as terrorism and terrorists.

Syrian leaders hailed the move as their journey back to economic recovery and reintegration to the international community.

This is after Trump met with the Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa in Riyadh where the President Trump showed the willingness to relax the sanctions.

According to a post made by foreign minister Asaad al-Shibani on social media site X, Trump had stated that the decision to end Syria sanctions program would open the door of much awaited reconstruction and development in Syria.

He indicated that the move would remove the barrier towards economic recovery and expose the nation to the international world.

Trump and Ahmed al-Sharaa, the President of Syria, met in Riyadh in May when in a major policy change, Trump surprisingly said he will remove sanctions on Syria and reports filtered out that Washington is likely to roll back its restrictions considerably.

White House claimed that the administration would keep a watch over the progress of Syria on such priorities like adopting concrete measures towards establishing normal relationship with Israel, tackling foreign terrorists, deporting Palestinian terrorists and banning of Palestinian terror gangs.
