US President Donald Trump vetoed a plan by Israel to kill Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in recent days, Reuters reported, citing two US officials.
Has an American been killed by the Iranians yet? No. One of the sources, a senior official in the U.S. administration, stated, “Until they do, we’re not even talking about going after the political leadership.”
Speaking on condition of anonymity, the officials said that since Israel launched a massive attack on Iran in an attempt to stop its nuclear program, top U.S. officials have been in constant communication with Israeli officials.
They claimed that Trump dismissed the Israelis’ report that they had a chance to assassinate the top Iranian leader.
Whether Trump personally delivered the message was not disclosed by the officials. However, Trump has communicated with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on a regular basis.
In an interview with Fox News Channel’s “Special Report With Bret Baier” on Sunday, Netanyahu responded to a question regarding the Reuters report by saying, “There’s so many false reports of conversations that never happened, and I’m not going to get into that.”
Trump has been hoping that talks between the United States and Iran regarding Tehran’s nuclear program will resume.
The strikes forced the cancellation of talks that were planned for Sunday in Oman.
