A young Tunisian girl who traveled to Pakistan for love has survived a suicide attempt in Karachi’s Lyari area.
The girl, identified as 19-year-old Senda Ayari, had arrived in Pakistan on November 28, 2024, and married a local resident, Aamir, on November 29. However, the relationship soon turned sour, culminating in Aamir divorcing her after just seven months. Her 90-day visa expired on February 18, 2025.
According to media reports, Senda attempted to end her life allegedly due to betrayal and domestic abuse. She was rescued and later handed over to the police.
In her statement, Senda said that Aamir no longer cared for her and neglected her emotionally. “He never paid attention to me. I’ll buy a ticket and return to Tunisia,” she said.
She further revealed that she had tried to throw one of Aamir’s belongings out the window in frustration but didn’t go through with it. However, Aamir became enraged, slapped her, and when she retaliated, he twisted her arms. She also alleged that Aamir’s father joined in the assault, and when she asked Aamir to stop his father from interfering, he kicked her in the face.
Senda said that although she and Aamir used to resolve their issues on their own, this time his mother verbally abused her harshly, and Aamir did nothing to intervene. Feeling helpless and heartbroken, she claimed she lost control and attempted to jump from a window to take her own life. People gathered afterward, she added, but instead of helping, they blamed her.
It is worth noting that Pakistan’s Ministry of Interior has reportedly offered to issue Senda an immediate exit permit. Meanwhile, Aamir’s family has also released a public statement regarding the situation.
