Israel-Iran ceasefire: Türkiye has hailed reports of an Israel-Iran ceasefire agreement, urging both sides to fully adhere to the truce and emphasizing the urgent need for a comprehensive peace in the Middle East.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement that while Ankara was cautiously optimistic about the ceasefire, it was concerned about reports of possible violations.
During what it called a “critical period” for regional stability, the ministry urged both countries to uphold the agreement.
“We applaud reports that Israel and Iran have reached an agreement on a cease-fire. We’re also keeping a close eye on reports that the cease-fire has been broken,” the statement said.
“During the crucial next phase, we urge the parties to strictly adhere to the cease-fire. “Peace and stability are more urgently needed in the Middle East than ever before,” the statement said.
The ministry underlined that the Middle East needs peace and stability now more than ever and called on all sides to move resolutely toward a comprehensive and long-lasting solution.
“Determined action must be taken in the direction of a comprehensive and long-term solution at a time when the Middle East needs peace and stability more than ever.
We think it is crucial to maintain open lines of communication and diplomacy in this situation,” the ministry stated.
The ministry also emphasized that the Palestinian problem is a major contributing factor to the continuous instability in the Middle East and that it needs to be resolved immediately in order to clear the path for more extensive peace initiatives.
It stated that the procedure has once again demonstrated the need for a speedy resolution to the Palestinian issue, which lies at the core of many Middle Eastern issues.
