LAHORE: Two cops injured in a hand grenade attack on the residence of former chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar Wednesday evening.
According to initial report, the residence of former Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), Saqib Nisar, was attacked with a hand grenade at 8pm, resulting in injuries to two police officers.
The initial report indicates that neither CCTV cameras were installed at the ex-CJP’s residence nor in the nearby streets.
However, forensic team, police crime unit and bomb disposal squad are on-site. The police investigation team have gathered evidence from the spot of incident and further investigation is underway.
As per details, the explosion occurred in the garage of former CJP Saqib Nisar’s residence however no loss of life was reported.
The ex-CJP and his family were at the residence in Garden Town when the explosion occurred. The family sources also claimed that the son of former CJP received threats twice.
Ex-CJP Saqib Nisar’s statement
The former CJP said that “Thankfully all the family members are safe”. He said that an object was thrown from outside which exploded and damaged the car which was parked in the house.
He added that the police is conducting investigation to ascertain the details and motives behind the explosion and “hopefully, the suspects will be arrested soon”.
Punjab police
Punjab IG Police Usman Anwar took notice of the blast and summoned a report from CCPO Lahore.
The injured policemen were identified as Constable Amir and Constable Khurram whereas IG Punjab directed the authorities to provide the injured with best possible medical treatment.
The police spokesperson said that “the family of former chief justice is completely safe”.
Justice Nisar served as the 25th Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. He took on December 31, 2016 and retired on January 17, 2019.
