The United States Consulate General in Lahore on Thursday launched a security alert for its members and Americans in the city, asking them to move to safe locations after a reported drone was shot down in the provincial capital.
The advisory states that the Consulate has asked its staff to shift to secure locations based on fears that airstrikes may be imminent after the incident.
“There are reports that a drone was shot down in Lahore. There could be airstrikes. All personnel are instructed to relocate to a safe area at once,” the alert stated.
The Consulate also instructed American citizens who are in areas that could be affected to leave without delay. “If it is not safe to depart, individuals should shelter in place until further notice,” the statement added.
Although the source of the drone is not yet confirmed, the development has come at a time when tensions are running high along the Pakistan-India border, with increased drone activity reported in several cities over the past few days, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Bahawalpur, and Nankana Sahib.
