Changing weather dynamics are set to impact large swathes of Pakistan as moisture-laden winds begin moving into central and northern territories, according to updated projections from weather authorities. The influence of these humid currents is anticipated to grow over the coming 48 hours, potentially leading to rainfall in multiple regions.
Meteorological updates suggest a western disturbance will reach the northern belt by June 25 and is expected to peak in intensity the following day. This development may result in periods of showers, gusty winds, and thunder in Karachi and other areas of Sindh—specifically in districts such as Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Khairpur, Hyderabad, Tharparkar, Jamshoro, Thatta, Badin, and adjoining localities—between June 25 and 28.
Meanwhile, from June 24 evening through July 2, weather conditions in Azad Jammu and Kashmir are likely to turn unstable. Localities including Muzaffarabad, Neelum, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Haveli, Bhimber, and Mirpur may see sporadic showers accompanied by strong winds and lightning.
Northern mountainous regions are also forecast to experience a wet spell. Between June 26 and 29, Gilgit-Baltistan’s valleys—including Skardu, Astore, Diamer, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghizer, Ghanche, and Shigar—are expected to receive moderate rainfall and thunderstorms.
Central Punjab, including the capital, is bracing for unsettled weather from June 25 through July 1. Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sargodha, and several neighboring districts such as Chakwal, Jhelum, Sheikhupura, and Sialkot may experience heavy downpours and windstorms at intervals.
In South Punjab, including Multan, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, and D.G. Khan, scattered rainfall is anticipated between June 26 and 28.
Widespread precipitation is also expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where intense monsoon activity may unfold from June 25 to July 1. Areas such as Peshawar, Swat, Dir, Malakand, Bannu, Kohat, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Waziristan, and Bajaur are among those forecast to witness recurring showers, gusty winds, and possible thunderclaps.
Parts of Balochistan aren’t exempt from the changing weather either. Between June 25 and 28, showers and thunderstorm activity are projected in eastern and southern districts, including Kohlu, Barkhan, Naseerabad, Kalat, Lasbela, Khuzdar, and Dera Bugti.
Authorities advise citizens to remain alert for potential urban flooding, localized flash floods in hilly areas, and disruptions in travel or power supply as the active monsoon system unfolds.
