As Eid-ul-Adha approaches, there’s still no official word from authorities regarding public holidays. However, sources suggest that a four-day break could be on the cards, likely beginning Friday, June 6, and stretching through Monday, June 9. Eid in Pakistan is expected to fall on Saturday, June 7.
People across the country, especially employees in both public and private sectors, are keeping an eye out for the official notification so they can finalize travel and family plans.
Interestingly, Saudi Arabia will observe Eid a day earlier — on June 6 — with the Day of Arafah, or Hajj day, marked on Thursday. That’s led to speculation online about whether Pakistan might also declare a holiday on that Thursday.
Historically though, Pakistan does not designate the Hajj day as a separate public holiday unless Eid and Hajj coincide on the same calendar dates as Saudi Arabia — and even then, the holiday is counted among the Eid days rather than being treated as a separate occasion.
So, unless the government surprisingly extends the break to begin on Thursday, it’s unlikely that Arafah Day will be a day off this year. For now, the public remains in wait-and-watch mode.
