Youm-e-Takbeer: Pakistan marks the 27th anniversary of its nuclear tests today, commemorating the moment it responded to India’s five nuclear detonations, restored the balance of power in the region and asserted its right to national defense.
On this occasion of Youm-e-Takbeer public holiday is being observed across the country. Special ceremonies are being held to pay tribute to the defenders of the nation.
Youm-e-Takbeer serves as a reminder of that historic moment in 1998 when Pakistan emerged as a nuclear power.
In his message on Youm-e-Takbeer, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that Pakistan came out victorious from the war imposed by India and the nation’s joy on this significant day has only multiplied with this clear victory.
The President of Pakistan also extended his congratulations to the nation on Youm-e-Takbeer.
Highlighting the events of May 1998, the Prime Minister recalled how India’s five nuclear tests challenged Pakistan’s security, defense and sovereignty. In response, Nawaz Sharif carried out six nuclear tests establishing Pakistan as a nuclear power.
Shehbaz Sharif stated that Nawaz Sharif represented the will and aspirations of the people at that critical time and did not yield to economic sanctions, international pressure, threats or temptations.
He paid tribute to Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan, the scientists and engineers and also lauded the armed forces for their role in safeguarding the country’s nuclear assets.
In his message PM also paid tribute to those who laid their lives while defending Pak grounds. “The country will never forget martyrs who let down the enemies and sacrificed themselves in the name of Pakistan.”
