Youm-e-Tashakur: What does it mean for the nation?
TwitterFacebook

Youm-e-Tashakur (Thanksgiving Day) is being celebrated throughout the nation today to mark the historic triumph of Marka-e-Haq and in honor of the brave defense forces and the resilient nation of Pakistan.

The day started with the recitation of the Holy Quran and special prayers in mosques throughout the country. Authorities held a 31-gun salute in the federal capital and organized a 21-gun salute in the provincial capitals to mark the day.

Change of guard ceremonies will take place at Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Muhammad Iqbal’s mausoleums. Flag hoisting ceremonies will also be conducted in federal as well as provincial capitals.

Officials will place floral wreaths at Yadgaar-e-Shuhada, and they will visit the families of martyrs from Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos to honor their sacrifices.

The government will hold a formal ceremony tonight at the Pakistan Monument in Islamabad, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif serving as the chief guest. The Chief of Army Staff and Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee will also attend.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif declared last week that the nation will celebrate Youm-e-Marka-e-Haq annually on 10 May to commemorate the massive success of Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos in repelling Indian aggression.

He announced that the country will mark Youm-e-Marka-e-Haq each year with great enthusiasm and a renewed spirit of national unity.

“Our professional skills of our valiant forces have made the country proud,” declared the prime minister.

Moreover, he also declared that the nation would celebrate Friday, 16 May 2025, as Youm-e-Tashakur — a day to pay tribute to the army for their overall success in defence and to bow before Allah in gratitude.

The prime minister said the nation will offer special prayers across the country to express gratitude and seek blessings for Pakistan’s peace and progress.

President Zardari Pays Tribute to Armed Forces, Nation’s Unity

President Asif Ali Zardari, in his message on the occasion, stated that it is a wonderful occasion for us to rejoice at the triumph of Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos against Indian unprovoked aggression.

“I am thankful to Almighty Allah for granting us victory in this moment of crisis. I offer homage to the courageous troops of the Pakistan Armed Forces and the military leadership as a whole, particularly the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, the Chief of Army Staff, the Chief of Air Staff, and the Chief of Naval Staff.

Furthermore, the triumph, though, is not only that of Pakistan’s Armed Forces but also of the whole Pakistani nation, who stood like Bunyan-um-Marsoos against the aggression of the enemy. “

He added, “I am proud of our Armed forces who replied to Indian aggression in a manner of precision, professionalism, and might. The world witnessed and appreciated Pakistan’s patience, restraint, and operational efficiency, which forced the enemy to halt its aggression. We stood firm. We stood united. And we triumphed with honor.”
